Design has always fascinated me, both the meaning of design and what makes a piece of design work. Throughout my studies I have found that there are always a set of rules to work to. These are the rules that we adhere to in our field every day, such as subjectivity, organisation and order. It was these rules, whether written or unwritten, that led me to consider the way in which graphic design worked and to question what would happen if they were altered. Within my work I explore the idea of how an object can become art through a systematic outlook on design.

I find the concept of journeys intriguing as we take part in journeys every day of our lives. They can be long or short, for example getting out of bed in the morning and going to the bathroom to brush your teeth is a journey, just as walking to the shops is. They all consist of a start and finish to get from point A to point B.

I often go out on ‘random’ walks, where I do not have a specific route planned. It is whilst walking that I began to consider ways in which I could document the journeys and the various routes that I took. I documented my surroundings; the buildings, shapes and forms that we see every day.
