My final year project - The Chinglish Alphabet:

The 'Chinglish' Alphabet is a new phonetic alphabet designed for Chinese adult learners of the English language. It is for those who speak standard Mandarin and can read in simplified Chinese characters. Chinglish allows these learners to understand and interpret the oral characteristics and nuances of modern English. It also aids the learning of correct pronunciation and consequently spelling. It is currently being extensiely tested.

About me:

Besides Art & Design, what always fascinate me are the similarities and differences between the English and Chinese languages (and cultures). Having lived both in eastern and western world has put my views as a designer into perspective. I believe that all visual communicators are obligated to employ their specialized knowledge to resolve real life issues. Designing is not just about making things look pretty.

A great creative director once told me there are three factors that make a designer successful: 1. creativity 2. problem solving 3. Craftsmanship, I would like to add two more things onto that list 4. enthusiasm 5. hardworking. The last one is just as important as the first three. Looking back now, I believe it was GOD who has provided me with that strength and endurance to persevere in the face of difficulty. I give my best shot in everything I do, not for my own glory, but as a way to show my gratitude to Him for sending his son Jesus to die for me on the cross.
